Wait Times at Magic Kingdom

Spring break, typically the week of Easter, the week of Thanksgiving, and the week after Christmas through New Year's Day.

Typically, there is a strong correlation between the wait time numbers and how busy the parks are: if wait times are higher the park is busier. However, weather and other events can cause wait times to be high without the park being super busy.

Take a look at the graph at the top of the page. It shows you how live wait times compare to the average wait time today. If wait times are above the dashed gray line, wait times are above average and the park is more crowded.

Monday is the busiest day to visit the Magic Kingdom with an average wait time of 38 minutes. The least busy day is Sunday with a 30 minute average wait time.

Sunday is the best day to visit the park with an average wait time of 30 minutes.

September is the best month to visit the Magic Kingdom with an average wait time of 26 minutes.

March is the worst/busiest month to visit the park with an average wait time of 37 minutes.

The Magic Kingdom typically opens at 9:00 AM for all guests. Disney Resort guests can typically enter at 8:30 AM. On many Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party days, the park opens at 8:00 AM with early theme park entry at 7:30 AM. Closing hours vary, but are typically 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM on days without a special event. Additional parks hours can be viewed here.

Short answer: rope drop is when the park first opens. Rope dropping is to get to the park at or before park opening. When you arrive at the Magic Kingdom before the park opening time, you are allowed to enter the main hub. A rope will block further entry into the park at various points. Guests will form lines at these areas. Once it is park opening time, a Cast Member will drop the rope, letting guests into experience the park's attractions.

Yes, the Magic Kingdom does have fireworks each night. Note that the fireworks show is sometimes exclusively for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, which are separately ticketed events.

While both are theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort, the Magic Kingdom (MK) and Disney's Animal Kingdom (DAK) are very different parks. In terms of attractions, MK has many more (DAK has the fewest rides of any WDW park). DAK is primarily a zoo with attractions intermingled.

The closest hotels to the Magic Kingdom are on the Monorail loop, which includes Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney's Contemporary Resort, and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. A short boat ride away is Disney's Wilderness Lodge. Each is within the Deluxe category of Disney hotels.

If the Magic Kingdom is closing at 6 PM or earlier, it could be due to one of several reasons. If it is in August through October, a Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is likely being held. If it is in November or December, a Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is probably happening. Both of these are separately ticketed events. If there is not a party going on, the park is likely closing for a Cast Member special event.

The closest park to MK is EPCOT, which is connected via the Monorail.
